In April 2026, I finished up at Epic Games after a few years.  I made the decision to leave in March 2026, realising that I needed to take some time to refresh and recharge my batteries.  I am in the privileged position of being able to take a break before starting something new.

I've spent my career chasing success, and genuinely think I've found it.   It may sound immodest to say it but it's true - I am good at what I do, and I've done it throughout the years, learning and growing as I go.  I've not lost the desire to do challenging, fulfilling and interesting work but salary, job title and promotion opportunities aren't the motivators they were for me earlier in my career.

I enjoy working hard and I find it easy to work hard when I am invested in and motivated by the challenge that I'm solving.  I enjoy working as part of a team where everyone is pulling in the same direction and everyone feels comfortable bringing their unique self to the situation.  I've written and spoken on diversity, inclusion and mental health in the workplace a lot in the past and it's something I hope to focus on returning to during my break and beyond.

I find work its most fulfilling when it's an intellectual challenge.  I love it when there's an interesting problem that requires thought and research to solve.  I've spent a lot of my career working in regulated industries and I've always been interested in the dynamic by which regulations try to make online activity safer but must be implement in a way which doesn't remove the enjoyment and freedom of the online experience.

In my next role, I want to feel that - as I've done in the past.  I want to bring my skills and experience into a great team, set them alongside the skills and experience of everyone else in the team and together achieve things that we couldn't do alone.

Neither salary nor job title is a particular motivator for me.  The challenge, the team and the nature of the work are what's going to spark my interest and get me back to the workplace.  Whatever comes next for me needs to pay the monthly bills, but beyond that it's the challenge and intellectual stimulation which will get me out of bed in the morning.

In the meantime, I'm picking up my online writing again, which you can find on LinkedIn and I'm always open to connecting with interesting people, whether that's related to my future work or just to get to know someone with an interesting story to tell!

I've got a slimmed-down version of my CV online on this site, but if you want to know more detail you can either email me to ask for my full CV or look at my LinkedIn profile.
